Pioneer FM Inspires Future Generations at UKRI Daresbury Innovation Day
Supporting One of the North West’s Largest Science Open Days
Pioneer FM was proud to support UKRI Daresbury Laboratory during its recent Innovation Day and Open Day event, which welcomed thousands of visitors, families, schools, and young people onto the site for a day of science, technology, and discovery.
The event gave the public a rare opportunity to explore one of the UK’s leading science and innovation campuses. Visitors experienced hands-on activities, workshops, live demonstrations, and behind-the-scenes access to world-leading research facilities.
Previous Daresbury public events have attracted more than 5,000 visitors alongside over 1,300 schoolchildren during dedicated school engagement days.
Preparing the Site for Thousands of Visitors
Pioneer FM’s team played an important role in helping prepare the site ahead of the event.
Our teams worked hard to ensure the campus was clean, safe, welcoming, and ready to support the large number of visitors attending throughout the day.
The event showcased the importance of facilities management in supporting major public events, high-security environments, and nationally significant scientific facilities.
Teaching Children About Sustainable Facilities Management
As part of the Innovation Day, Pioneer FM also supported our client by helping educate children and families about sustainable facilities management.
Using interactive activities, PPE demonstrations, and our own illustrated children’s book, Facilities Management and the Pioneer Superheroes Behind It, we introduced young visitors to:

- How facilities management keeps buildings safe
- Sustainability and recycling
- Energy saving and environmental responsibility
- Careers within facilities management
Children had the opportunity to explore equipment, learn about safety, and discover how facilities teams help support schools, hospitals, workplaces, and public buildings every day.

As part of the Innovation Day, Pioneer FM showcased its educational children’s book, Facilities Management and the Pioneer Superheroes Behind It.
The book was created to help children understand the important role facilities management plays in everyday life. Through fun characters and engaging stories, young readers learn about sustainability, cleaning, maintenance, recycling, and environmental responsibility.
The book helped children visiting the event explore how facilities teams help keep schools, hospitals, workplaces, and public spaces safe, clean, and operational every day.
