Background
The Daresbury Laboratory (DL) campus is a critical hub within the UK Research and Innovation (UKRI) network, located in the heart of the Cheshire Science Corridor.
Comprising of multiple buildings and labs, which are consistently growing, Daresbury Laboratory is a leader in scientific research and innovation, hosting cuttingedge facilities and supporting world-class research in areas such as physics, engineering, and computational science. As part of UKRI, the campus plays a pivotal role in driving advancements in technology and innovation across the UK. The site is home to a growing number of researchers, scientists, and support staff, working in a diverse and mixed environment.
What was the challenge
When Pioneer FM first took on the contract following a competitive public tender, the site spanned approximately 67 hectares, comprising 22 buildings, with plans for further expansion. Faced with the challenge of quickly mobilising operations, Pioneer FM successfully transitioned the site within an impressive two-week timeframe, despite receiving minimal documentation from the previous service provider.
Understanding the complexities and scale, Pioneer FM immediately implemented new, efficient processes to ensure a
seamless takeover. These processes included comprehensive site assessments, the introduction of streamlined
operational protocols, and the deployment of specialised teams equipped to handle the unique demands of such a large and evolving facility. By swiftly establishing a solid foundation, Pioneer FM not only ensured the continuity of services but also laid the groundwork for future enhancements as the campus continues to grow.
Pioneer FM Approach
Pioneer FM introduced the cutting-edge Stabilised Aqueous Ozone technology to the site, revolutionising the cleaning
process and setting a new standard for sustainability and efficiency. By installing the Tersano dispenser system, we transitioned the site to using Stabilised Aqueous Ozone as the primary cleaning agent. This not only ensured an ecofriendly approach but also enhanced the effectiveness of cleaning operations by harnessing the power of this highly effective yet non-toxic solution. The move significantly reduced the reliance on harsh chemicals, aligning with the client's commitment to environmental responsibility while maintaining the highest standards of cleanliness and hygiene.
In addition to transforming the cleaning processes, Pioneer FM undertook a comprehensive streamlining of the site’s maintenance work. Our team re-engineered the existing workflows, introducing a new method to quickly report and commission ad hoc work. This overhaul resulted in increased efficiency, reduced downtime, and a more proactive approach to facility management, ensuring that the site runs smoothly and effectively at all times.

Our efforts not only strengthened our relationship with UKRI but also positioned us as pioneers in delivering state-of-the-art solutions that drive real value for our clients.

This was a 3 + 1 contract, subject to renewal after 3 years. Due to our exceptional service, the client made the decision to renew our contract. As a result, Pioneer FM secured multiple new contracts at the Daresbury site with clients PSIQuantum and MC Construction.
