Onecom is a the UK’s largest independent telecommunications provider, specialising in delivering comprehensive business communication solutions, including mobile, fixed-line, and cloud services. With a strong presence across the country, Onecom supports businesses of all sizes in optimising their communication infrastructure, driving efficiency, and enhancing connectivity.

Pioneer FM provides cleaning services to all five of Onecom's key offices across the UK, ensuring that these crucial operational hubs maintain the highest standards of cleanliness and hygiene.

What was the challenge

The primary challenge faced by Onecom was the need to streamline and standardise their cleaning and maintenance services across multiple sites, each with its unique set of issues. The company was previously relying on eight different cleaning and service providers, which led to inconsistencies in the quality and standards of cleanliness. These disparities were compounded by the fact that each site used different chemicals and equipment, resulting in a lack of uniformity across the organization's operational hubs.

Additionally, the transition to a single service provider, Pioneer FM, involved overcoming logistical hurdles, particularly with remote key sites where lone workers were responsible for maintaining standards. The scattered nature of these sites made it difficult to ensure that all locations adhered to the same high standards of hygiene and cleanliness, highlighting the need for a more cohesive and consistent approach across the board.

Pioneer FM Approach

Pioneer FM addressed the challenges of communication and coordination, especially with remote staff, by utilising our company app, Connecteam. This App enabled real-time communication between staff, line management, and the Head Office, ensuring that even employees who had only seen management during their induction were always connected. The app’s chat function facilitated seamless coordination, particularly when it came to managing absences, allowing for quick and efficient communication across the team.


To further enhance their approach, Pioneer FM implemented a system where standby staff from nearby sites could be quickly mobilised to cover any unexpected absences. With ConnectTeam’s live location and time tracking features, Pioneer FM could ensure that all sites were adequately staffed, maintaining high standards of service and safety across all locations. The app's ability to upload audits and track performance in real-time also played a crucial role in keeping operations running smoothly, regardless of the challenges posed by remote work and site-specific needs.

The Benefits and Key Achievements

Initially, Onecom was cautious about awarding their cleaning contract due to previous disappointing experiences with large, well-known national providers. To mitigate this risk, they opted for a temporary contract with Pioneer FM, including a one-month notice clause to allow for flexibility in terminating and changing providers should Pioneer FM not perform to the task.

However, the exceptional service provided by Pioneer FM quickly alleviated any concerns. Impressed by the consistent
quality, reliability, and responsiveness of Pioneer FM, Onecom soon transitioned from the temporary arrangement to a permanent  contract. This long-term agreement includes a rolling review and notice clause, reflecting the strong partnership and trust that has developed between the two companies. This decision underscores Pioneer FM’s ability to exceed expectations and deliver on their promises, even where others have previously fallen short.
